Men’s Tennis Edged In NCAA Round Of 16 By Southwest Baptist, 4-1

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – Freshman Jan Godfrey Seno (Cebu City, Philippines) capped off his freshman campaign on Tuesday afternoon with his first singles victories over a nationally-ranked opponent to finish the spring with an undefeated dual match record, as the No. 27 Concordia College New York men's tennis team's season came to an end in a 4-1 setback to sixth seeded and 12th-ranked nationally Southwest Baptist University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship Round of 16.

NOTES
• Concordia ends the season with an 18-4 record.

• Southwest Baptist improves to 19-2.

• The Clippers .818 winning percentage during the 2019 season is the program's highest since the 2013 campaign when Concordia boasted an .880 winning percentage behind a 22-3 record.

• Godfrey Seno is the fourth Clipper to end the season with an undefeated dual match recordin singles action since 2006, with his 18 wins trailing Alex Grubin's 26-0 mark during the 2008-2009 academic year for the most wins in an undefeated dual match season.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Senior Eymeric Chevalier (Bordeux, France) and sophomore Henry Masters (Southampton, England) fell at the second doubles position to recently named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Most Improved Senior Raul Caballero and Max Sanoja 6-2.

• Sophomore William Nilsson (Bastad, Sweden) and Godfrey Seno held an early 2-1 lead at the top doubles flight against Adham Gaber and Ferenc Agoston before the Bearcats' top pairing won five-straight games to clinch the doubles point.

• At the third doubles slot, sophomore Michele Fenoaltea (Rome, Italy) and freshman Nicolas Sitaras' (Somers, N.Y.) match against David Szeri and Carlos Corser was left unfinished with the Clippers ahead 5-2

• Chevalier fell in back-to-back 6-1 sets to ninth-ranked nationally Gaber at the first singles position.

• Nilsson dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Szeri on the fourth court.

• Godfrey Seno blanked 71st-ranked Corser 6-0 in the opening set at the fifth flight before outlasting his Bearcat counterpart 7-5 in set two.

• Masters recovered from a 6-2 opening-set defeat at the second slot against No. 58 Caballero, leading 6-5 in the second set before his nationally-ranked foe forced the tiebreaker game and ended the match with a 7-2 tiebreaker score.

• In a matchup of nationally-ranked singles players on court three, 53rd-ranked Fenoaltea fell in his opener set against No. 31 Agoston in the tiebreaker game 7-4 with the match left unfished.

 Sophomore Tomer Mendler (Tel Aviv, Israel) trailed Marcel Castillo at the sixth spot 6-3, 4-3 when the match was called.
