Nilsson Named ITA East Region Player To Watch

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2019 ITA National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Men's Regional Award winners on Wednesday afternoon, with Concordia College New York sophomore William Nilsson (Bastad, Sweden) being named the East Region Player to Watch.

A 2019 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Conference Second Team honoree, Nilsson enters the NCAA Championships Round of 16 with an 18-3 record in singles play and riding a 14-match winning streak with 13 of the victories during the streak being straight-set decisions. In doubles action, Nilsson holds a 17-6 record with 12 appearances at the Clippers' top position alongside freshman Jan Godfrey Seno (Cebu City, Philippines) with the duo going 10-2 in those matches.

Nilsson is the fifth recipient of the East Region Player to Watch plaudit in program history, with Rafael Ferreira last claiming the honor during the 2014-15 academic year.

Ranked 27th in the latest ITA Division II National Poll, the men's tennis team next takes on Southwest Baptist in the NCAA Championship Round of 16 in Altamonte Spring, Fla. on Tuesday, May 21 at 4 p.m.
