Nilsson Named CACC Men’s Tennis Player Of The Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Concordia College New York men's tennis sophomore William Nilsson (Bastad, Sweden) has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Monday.

For the initial weekly awards from the conference, all spring matches to date were considered.

Nilsson went undefeated in singles action over Concordia's opening two matches with a pair of straight-set sweeps at the third flight, defeating the University of Delaware's Nathan Benyowtiz 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) before a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Stefan Gmijovic from St. Francis Brooklyn. In doubles action, Nilsson and freshman Jan Godfrey Seno (Cebu City, Philippines) paired up and went 1-1 at the second position with a 6-2 victory against St. Francis Brooklyn's Guillermo Artiz and Pablo Blasco-Torres.

The 2018 CACC Rookie of the Year and All-Conference First-Team honoree, Nilsson's Player of the Week nod is the first of his career and fourth weekly accolade from the league with three Rookie of the Week plaudits last spring on top of one Rookie of the Month distinction during the fall of 2017.

The 21st-ranked Clippers currently holds a 1-1 record after falling at Delaware 5-2 on Sunday, Feb. 3 and defeating St. Francis Brooklyn 6-0 on Saturday, Feb. 9.

The men's tennis team hosts Farleigh Dickinson University on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m.
