Men’s Tennis Opens Home Schedule With 6-0 Victory Over St. Francis Brooklyn

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 21 Concordia College New York men's tennis team played its first home match of the season on Saturday evening, prevailing in a back-and-forth battle at the top doubles position to claim the point before a strong outing in singles play propelled the Clippers to a 6-0 victory over visiting Division I foe St. Francis Brooklyn.

NOTES
• Concordia improves to 1-1.
• St. Francis Brooklyn falls to 0-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Freshman Jan Godfrey Seno (Cebu City, Philippines) and sophomore William Nilsson (Bastad, Sweden) paired up on the second court for doubles, defeating Guillermo Artiz and Pablo Blasco-Torres 6-2.

• Senior Lars Olson (Chatham, N.Y.) and freshman Nicolas Sitaras (Somers, N.Y.) fell at the third flight 6-2 to Grant Louis and Daniel Blasco.

• With the doubles' point on the line and a tied game 6-6 at the top position, the seventh-ranked Division II duo of senior Eymeric Chevalier (Bordeaux, France) and sophomore Michele Fenoaltea (Rome, Italy) bested Alejandro Ridruejo and Tomas Dirube 7-3 in the tiebreaker.

• In singles play, Nilsson overpowered Stefan Gmijovic 6-1, 6-1 at the third flight.

• Chevalier outlasted Dirube 7-5 in the opening set on court one before a 6-2 second-set victory.

• No. 10 Fenoaltea clinched the match result behind a 7-5, 6-1 triumph over Ridruejo at the second position.

• Godfrey Seno defeated D. Blasco 6-1, 6-3 at the fourth flight.

• Freshman Maximilian Grundmann (Schwerte, Germany) earned his first collegiate dual-match victory in a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Louis at the fifth position.

• After falling in his opening set 7-5, Sitaras and were tied 4-4 in the second set at the sixth slot before the match was called.

UP NEXT
The men's tennis team hosts Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday, Feb. 19 with first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.
