Men’s Tennis Falls In Season Opener At Delaware, 5-2

ELKTON, Md. – Freshman Jan Godfrey Seno (Cebu City, Philippines) recorded his first collegiate dual-match victory on Sunday afternoon, but the No. 21 Concordia College New York men's tennis team fell in its season opener to Division I University of Delaware 5-2.

• Delaware improves to 2-1

HOW IT HAPPENED 
• At the top doubles position, the seventh-ranked duo in Division II of senior Eymeric Chevalier (Bordeaux, France) and Michele Fenoaltea (Rome, Italy) fell against the Blue Hens' James Wilkinson and Luis Molina 6-4.

• Freshman Maximilian Grundmann (Schwerte, Germany) and sophomore Henry Masters (Northampton, England) dropped a 6-3 decision to Guilherme Valdoleiros and Milo Nagle on the third court to clinch the doubles point.

• Sophomore William Nilsson (Bastad, Sweden) and Godfrey Seno paired up for the first time, falling 6-4 to Nathan Benyowitz and Laurenz Lankes at the second flight.

• In singles play, Grundmann fell 6-0, 6-4 to Nagle on court six.

• Chevalier played at the top slot for the Clippers, dropping a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Wilkinson.

• After dropping a 6-0 opening set at the third position, Masters tried to force a third set against Valdoleiros but fell short 7-5.

• Nilsson took the opening set against Benyowitz 6-4 before outlasting his Blue Hen opposition 7-6 in the second set.

• Entering the spring as the 10th-ranked singles player in Division II, Fenoaltea forced a tiebreaker with a 6-3 second set triumph after falling in the opener 6-0 at the second position but Molina held on 10-6 to take the point.

• Godfrey Seno and Lankes split 6-4 sets to force a tiebreaker, which Godfrey Seno prevailed in 13-11.

The men's tennis team plays its first home match of the year on Saturday, Feb. 9 against St. Francis Brooklyn in a 6 p.m. match.
