Fenoaltea and Chevalier Fall To South Region Champions On Day One Of ITA Cup

ROME, Ga. – The Concordia College (N.Y.) men's tennis duo of senior Eymeric Chevalier (Bordeaux, France) and sophomore Michele Fenoaltea (Rome, Italy) began play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup on Thursday afternoon, with Fenoaltea falling to second-seed Pierre Montreul from No. 2 Barry University in the singles bracket while the pair lost to fourth-seeded Ortiz-Couder and Andres Donayre from No. 22 Embry-Riddle University. Both Barry and Embry-Riddle are from the south region, which has produced six of the last 10 NCAA Division II National Champions.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
Going up against the seventh-ranked singles player, Fenoaltea lost his opener to Montrieul 6-4 before a 6-2 second-set decision ended the contest.

In the doubles bracket, the Clippers dropped back-to-back 6-4 sets against an Embry-Riddle pair that featured half of the 20th-ranked duo last season in Donayre.

UP NEXT
Play in the ITA Cup continues tomorrow, with Fenoaltea facing third-seed Jakob Schnaitter from No. 8 Azusa Pacific University in singles action while Fenoaltea and Chevalier take on Cormac McCooey and Unai Amilleta Gonzalez of No. 39 Mercyhurst in doubles.
