FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Concordia College (N.Y.) men's tennis team demonstrated why it has maintained the top ranking in the region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) at the ITA East Regional, as sophomore Michele Fenoaltea (Rome, Italy) captured the doubles championship with senior Eymeric Chevalier (Bordeaux, France) before claiming the singles title.

NOTES
 • Fenoaltea becomes the first singles champion for Concordia since Rafael Ferreira in 2015, and the first to win both the singles and doubles titles in the same season since Daniele Piludu in 2012

• It is the eighth time in the last 10 years that the East Region's doubles champions have come from Concorida.

• Chevalier is now a two-time regional champions, winning the doubles title last year with Alessandro Evangelisti.

HOW IT HAPPENED (SINGLES)
 • Starting his journey in the second qualifier round, Fenoaltea powered past Matthew Corsie from St. Thomas Aquinas 8-1. In the main draw, Fenoaltea bested Antoine Gautier from Chestnut Hill 6-3, 6-2, Francisco Casidas from the New York Institute of Technology 7-6, 6-4, Richard Sac of Queens College (N.Y.) 6-3, 7-5 and Kareem Rashad from Queens 6-3, 7-6 (6) to advance to the semifinals. Fenoaltea outlasted Nicolas Castaldo of Nyit 7-5, 6-2 in the semifinals before defeating Tiego Fernandes from Southern New Hampshire 6-3, 6-4 to claim the singles title.

• Sophomore William Nilsson (Bastad, Sweden) joined Fenoaltea in the semifinals, defeating Jose Zurro from Queens 6-2, 6-1 before back-to-back three-set triumphs over Roberto Chong from Franklin Pierce 6-7 (7), 7-6 (5), 1-0 (10) and Cosmo Jubera from Queens 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (6). • Senior Lars Olson (Chatham, N.Y.) posted back-to-back victories over Sahas Chandragiri from the University of the Sciences and Maksim Bahdanovich from the University of the District of Columbia by scores of 8-6 and 8-3 to advance to the main draw, where he fell to Jonathan Garcia from Merrimack 7-6, 6-3.

• Freshman Maximillian Grundmann won his opening match in the main draw 6-4, 6-4 over Miguel Marreiros of NYIT before falling to Denis Davydov from Merrimack 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (8).

• Chevalier outlasted Frank Vega of Merrimack in a three-set battle 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (7) in the main draw before a 6-0, 6-3 setback against Castaldo.

• Freshman Jan Godfrey Seno advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Fernando Torres from Southern New Hampshire, 6-2, 6-0 win over Timothy Nacca from Robert Wesleyan and 6-3, 6-1 win over Jesus Darias from Chestnut Hill before falling to Fernandes 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (7)

• Sophomores Tomer Mendler (Tel Aviv, Isreal), Henry Masters, (Northampton, England), Joseph Queralt and Freshman Nicolas Sitaras, all lost in their first matches of the qualifiers.

HOW IT HAPPENED (DOUBLES)
 • Chevalier and Fenoaltea's road to the finals featured an 8-4 victory over Andrew Schadt and James Bisazza from Franklin Pierce, 8-3 win over Jesus Darias and Gautier of Chestnut Hill, 8-3 win over Emmanuel Vacalares and Fernandes from Southern New Hampshire and 8-5 triumph over Boyd Blackburn and Guido Janssen of Robert Wesleyan (N.Y.). In the Championship bout, the pair prevailed over Willem Van Biezen and Bas Van Biezen 7-6, 1-6, 1-0 (12) from Southern New Hampshire to keep the doubles title in Bronxville.

• Lindqvist Nilsson and Grundman advanced to the quarterfinals after besting Daniel Kmetz and Dennis Barlotta of Saint Anselm College 8-1, Andrew Freeman and Dennis Barlotta of Robert Wesleyan 8-2 plus Davydov and Alex Fedorov from Merrimack 8-6 before falling to Sac and Jubera from Queens 8-3.

• Masters and Seno posted back-to-back victories via 8-5 and 9-8 scores against Tyler Underwood and Sven Gopfrich from Le Moyne College and Fernando Ramirez Lascurain and Zurro of Queens before falling in the Round of 16 8-1 to W. Biezen and B. Biezen.

• Sitaras and Olson fell in the opening round 8-4 to Juan Rojas Riano and Samuel Miller from Stonehill College.
