Clippers Men's Tennis Powers Their Way to the NCAA Round of 16 With a 5-1 Victory Over Southern N.H.

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Concordia College men's tennis team is returning to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Round of 16 after powering their way to a 5-1 victory over Southern N.H. on Tuesday at the Meyers Tennis Center. The Clippers won their 13th straight NCAA East Region Final as a varsity program and look to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time since 2015.

Concordia swept the doubles matches as the No. 2 duo of freshman Axel Oljons (Stockholm, Sweden) and freshman William Nilsson (Bastad, Sweden) began with an 8-4 win against Miguel Marreiros and Ricardo Marreiros. The Clippers would take the final two doubles matches by a score of 8-5 as the No. 1 duo of juniors Eymeric Chevalier (Bordeaux, France) and Alessandro Evangelisti (Latina, Italy) defeated Xavier Aubron and Bas van Biezen while as freshman Michele Fenoaltea (Rome, Italy) and freshman Henry Masters (Northampton, England) topped Tiago Fernandes and Jeremy Reichentahl in the No. 3 match.

In singles action the Penmen would gain a match point as Fernandes was victorious against Chevalier in the No. 1 match 6-1, 7-5. Nilsson worked to take his No. 3 match in straight sets as he would earn a 7-5, 6-1 win over Miguel Marreiros as Concordia was one match away from securing the victory. Evangelisti's match would be the final one to finish as he secured a 6-2, 6-4 win against Ricardo Marreiros in the No. 2 match to give the Clippers the 5-1 match victory.

Concordia (16-4) will now wait to see who they will play in the 2018 NCAA Round of 16 in Surprise, Ariz. on May 9th.
