Men's Tennis Sweeps USciences to Claim CACC Regular Season Championship

PHILADELPHIA - The Concordia Clippers men's tennis team swept the University of Sciences Devils, 9-0, on Wednesday in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action as Concordia claimed the CACC Regular Season Championship and the top seed in this weekend's CACC Championship Tournament.

The No. 2 duo of freshman Michele Fenoaltea (Rome, Italy) and freshman Henry Masters (Northampton, England) began the match with an 8-1 victory against Sahas Chandragiri and Chandat Phan while junior Alessandro Evangelisti (Latina, Italy) and freshman Axel Oljons (Stockholm, Sweden) followed with an 8-2 win over Rakesh Chamala and Duncan Henderson in the No. 3 match. The Clippers completed doubles play with an 8-3 victory in the No. 1 match as freshman Axel Oljons (Stockholm, Sweden) and freshman William Nilsson (Bastad, Sweden) topped Borna Novak and Nathan Nguyen.

In singles play Evangelisti defeated Novak 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 match while Oljons secured a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 3 match against Chandragiri. Nilsson earned a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Nguyen in the No. 2 match while Masters topped Phan 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 match. Freshman Tomer Mendler (Tel Aviv, Israel) came away with an 8-0 pro-set win in the No. 5 match against Bill Bentley while Fenoaltea took an 8-1 pro-set victory over Evan Halperin in the No. 6 match to give Concordia the 9-0 win.

The Clippers (13-4, 4-0 CACC) will next battle the fourth-seeded Jefferson University Rams on Saturday in the CACC Championship Tournament Semi-Finals. First serve at the Edgewood Bath & Tennis Club in Middlebury, Conn. is set for 10 a.m.
