Men's Tennis Tops D1 Foe Wagner, 5-2

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Concordia College men's tennis team returned to action on Friday afternoon against NCAA Division I foe Wagner College at the Meyers Tennis Center. The Clippers were able to come away with a 5-2 win as Concordia has now won five matches in a row.

In doubles play, the teams played NCAA Division I rules as a best two-out-of-three format was played to gain an important match point. The No. 1 duo of juniors Eymeric Chevalier (Bordeaux, France) and Alessandro Evangelisti (Latina, Italy) would take a 6-1 victory against Anatoliy Lashkul and Dale Sandy as the No. 3 duo of freshman Henry Masters (Northampton, England) and freshman Michele Fenoaltea (Rome, Italy) followed with a 6-4 win against Charlton Boyd and Ilya Kneppelhout. The No. 2 duo of freshman Axel Oljons (Stockholm, Sweden) and freshman William Nilsson (Bastad, Sweden) dropped a 6-3 decision to Dylan Walters and Eric Poland, but the Clippers would take a 1-0 lead into singles action.

Nilsson would begin with a 6-2, 6-4 win in his No. 3 match against Hans Ohrner as Chevalier followed with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 come-from-behind victory against Walters in the No. 1 match. Evangelisti fell in his No. 3 match against Lashkul 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 as Concordia led 3-1 overall in the match. Wagner would earn another point in the No. 6 match as Fenoaltea dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Boyd. Masters also earned a come-from-behind victory as he would take a 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-3 victory over Poland. Oljons capped the match with a come-from-behind win of his own as he topped Sandy 6-7 (5), 7-5, 1-0 (6) to give the Clippers the 5-2 victory.

Concordia (8-3) will open up their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. match at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pa.
