Clippers Men's Tennis Survives Tough Test at Queens (N.Y.), 6-3

FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Concordia College men's tennis team traveled to face NCAA DII East Divisional rival Queens (N.Y.) College for a non-conference match at the QC Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon. The five-plus hour match would go in favor of the Clippers, 6-3, in a hard fought battle by both sides.

In doubles play the No. 3 duo of freshman Henry Masters (Northampton, England) and freshman Michele Fenoaltea (Rome, Italy) topped Jose Zurro and Lucas Martinez, 8-3, while the No. 1 duo of juniors Eymeric Chevalier (Bordeaux, France) and Alessandro Evangelisti (Latina, Italy) were victorious against Roman Laga and Gabriel Mendez, 8-6. Concordia was unable to complete the sweep in doubles play as freshman Axel Oljons (Stockholm, Sweden) and freshman William Nilsson (Bastad, Sweden) were edged 9-8 (5) in their No. 2 match against Cosme Jubera and Richard Sec.

The Knights would take the No. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-3 as Nilsson fell against Laga. Chevalier would earn a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 come-from-behind victory in his No. 1 match against Mendez while Evangelisti held on for a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win against Jubera in the No. 2 match. Masters was unable to hold on for a victory in his No. 4 match as Sec took the 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory. Freshman Tomer Mendler (Tel Aviv, Israel) battled his way to a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5) come-from-behind win against Martinez in the No. 5 match while Oljons capped the match with a 6-0, 7-6 (16) victory against Zurro.

Concordia (6-3) will return home to host Roberts Wesleyan on Thursday afternoon. First serve in the Meyers Tennis Center is set for 2 p.m.
