No. 4 Clippers Men’s Tennis Upended by No. 3 Barry in NCAA Quarterfinals

Altamonte Springs, Fla. – The No. 4 Concordia College men's tennis team battled No. 3 Barry University on Thursday evening in a NCAA Quarterfinals matchup. The Clippers were unable to advance to the NCAA Semifinals as the Buccaneers secured a 5-1 victory.

Concordia began the match trailing 3-0 after dropping the doubles matches. The No. 3 duo of junior Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) and freshman Pulat Babadjanov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) would be the first match to finish as they fell 8-3 against Renato Lombardi and Kevin Sielmann as did the No. 1 duo of senior Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) and junior Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) against Ollie Lemaitre and Ahmed Triki.

The No. 2 duo of senior Ricardo Frey (Curitiba, Brazil) and sophomore Rafael Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) would put up a hard-fought battle as they came up just short in a 9-8 (3) defeat to Romain Costamagna and Leo Vivas.

In singles action Piludu would prevent the shutout for the Clippers as he took a 6-2, 6-2 win against Fabian Grietsch in the No. 2 match. Barry's Triki would take a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the No. 1 match against Ojanen as Concordia now trailed 4-1.

The Buccaneers would earn their match-clinching victory as Frey dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Eduardo Alfonzo in the No. 6 match. The remaining matches would go unfinished.

The Clippers (20-5, 6-0 CACC) have now completed their 2013-14 season. A full season wrap-up on the season will be released this summer. Be sure to check back to ConcordiaClippers.com for the announcement in early June.
