No. 4 Men’s Tennis Defeats No. 21 Cameron to Advance to NCAA Round of 8 for Fifth Time in Six Years

Altamonte Springs, Fla. – The No. 4 Concordia Clippers men's tennis team defeated the No. 21 Cameron Aggies 5-0 on Wednesday evening to earn their fifth trip to the NCAA Round of 8 in the last six seasons.

Concordia began the match with a sweep of doubles play as the No. 1 duo of senior Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) and junior Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) took an 8-2 win over Angelo Lencioni and Felipe Oyarzun. The No. 2 duo of senior Ricardo Frey (Curitiba, Brazil) and sophomore Rafael Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) followed with an 8-1 victory against Dennis Merdan and Joao Fazendeiro while the No. 3 duo of junior Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) and freshman Pulat Babadjanov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) fought their way to an 8-6 win against Rory de Boer and Andres Velasco.

With a 3-0 lead for the Clippers all that was needed was two singles victories to claim the overall match win. Majauskas would take his No. 3 match 6-1, 6-1 against Oyarzun while Ferreira's 6-1, 6-1 victory against Dean Weigelt in the No. 6 match clinched a 5-0 overall match victory for Concordia. The remainder of the matches would be scored as unfinished.
