No. 6 Clippers Men's Tennis Edges No. 19 NYIT, 6-3

Bronxville, N.Y. – The sixth-ranked Concordia College men's tennis team battled the No. 19 NYIT Bears at the Meyers Tennis Center on Wednesday evening. In a showdown with the top two men's program's in the East Region the Clippers would come out on top with a 6-3 victory to earn their 15th win of the season.

Concordia began the match with two victories in doubles play as the No. 1 duo of senior Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) and junior Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) earned an 8-6 victory over Julio Pulido and Matej Selecky. Shortly thereafter senior Ricardo Frey (Curitiba, Brazil) and sophomore Rafael Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was victorious over Nico Jubera and Tomas Lieb in the No. 2 match, 8-6.

NYIT managed to take the No. 3 doubles match to avoid the sweep as junior's Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) and Juuso Ojanen (Varkaus, Finland) fell 9-7 against Nicolas Auruccio and Nicolas Heintz.

In singles play Piludu began with a 6-1, 6-2 win for the Clippers in the No. 2 match against Rafal Charkiewicz. Ojanen would then follow with a hard-fought 6-3 7-6 (7) victory against Pulido in the No. 1 match. Majauskas would clinch the overall win for Concordia as his 7-6 (5), 6-1 victory in the No. 3 match against Auruccio would give the Clippers a 5-1 advantage.

The Bears would earn wins in two of the last three singles matches as sophomore Ofir Ginat (Raa'nana, Israel) fell to Heintz 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 4 match and Ferreira dropped a 7-5, 6-3 decision to Selecky in the No. 6 match. Concordia's last match victory came in the No. 5 match as Olfans secured a 6-2, 6-4 win over Lieb.

The Clippers (15-3, 5-0 CACC) will close out their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular season schedule on Friday afternoon. Concordia will visit Philadelphia University for a 3 p.m. Match at the Abraham J. Salaman Tennis Courts.
