No. 6 Concordia Men’s Tennis Shuts out Dist. of Columbia, 9-0

Bronxville, N.Y. – The sixth-ranked Concordia College men's tennis team welcomed the University of the District of Columbia to the Meyers Tennis Center for an East Region match on Sunday morning. The Clippers would show why they are the top team in the region as Concordia would shut out the Firebirds, 9-0.

Sophomore Ofir Ginat (Raa'nana, Israel) and junior Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) would begin doubles play for Concordia with an 8-2 win over Carlos Quiroga and Drew Stewart in the No. 3 match. Shortly thereafter senior Ricardo Frey (Curitiba, Brazil) and sophomore Rafael Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) would earn an 8-4 victory in the No. 2 match over UDC's Simon Andersson and Simon Jackermeier.

The Clippers would complete the sweep in doubles play as the No. 1 duo of junior Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) and senior Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) secured an 8-4 win over Miguel Uzcategui and Ike Kiro to give the team a 3-0 overall advantage into singles play.

Piludu was the first to complete his singles match as he easily defeated Kiro 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 match. Majauskas would follow in the No. 3 match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Jackermeier to give Concordia a 5-0 match advantage. Ojanen would battle hard in his No. 1 match and came away with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Uzcategui.

With three singles matches to go Olfans would earn the Clippers' sixth victory of the match after he claimed a 6-1, 6-3 win over Andersson. Both Frey in his No. 6 match and freshman Pulat Babadjanov (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) in his No. 5 match would end almost simultaneously as Frey secured a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Stewart and Babadjanov was victorious over Quiroga 6-1, 6-2 to give Concordia a 9-0 sweep.

With the win head coach Neil Tarangioli now has 495 career victories as a head coach of the men's program. He will look to secure win number 500 this season.

The Clippers (5-1, 0-0 CACC) will open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on Tuesday afternoon against Caldwell. The match is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Meyers Tennis Center on the campus of Concordia College.
