Surprise, Ariz. – The 6th-ranked Concordia Clippers men's tennis team saw their run to a national championship end on Friday afternoon to the hands Barry University. The top-ranked Bucs remained perfect on the season and advanced to their seventh national championship match after a 5-0 victory over Concordia.
Sophomore's Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) and Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) would begin the match with an 8-5 loss in the No. 2 doubles match against Ollie Lemaitre and Max Wimmer as Barry took a 1-0 lead.
The Bucs would take the two remaining doubles matches as Romain Costamagna and Leo Vivas took an 8-5 win in the No. 3 match against senior's David Tisserand (Lyon, France) and Andreas Lindell (Helsingborg, Sweden). Fabian Groetsch and Marco Mokrzycki edged out an 8-6 victory for Barry against senior Andrey Boldarev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and junior Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) in the No. 1 match to take a 3-0 overall lead.
In singles play Lindell fell to Lemaitre 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 match and then Majauskas dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Vivas in the No. 5 match as Barry took the shutout victory. Boldarev, Olfans, Piludu, and Tisserand were all in the middle of their singles matches which would go unfinished.
The Clippers (22-3, 6-0 CACC) finished the season with 20 or more wins and a trip to the national semifinals match for the fourth time in five seasons.
