No. 10 Concordia Advances to NCAA Round of 16 after 6-0 Win over Queens (N.Y.)

Flushing, N.Y. – The 10th-ranked Concordia men's tennis team captured a 6-0 win over rival Queens (N.Y.) in the NCAA East Regional Final to advance to the NCAA Round of 16 on Monday afternoon.

Senior's David Tisserand (Lyon, France) and Andreas Lindell (Helsingborg, Sweden) would win the No. 3 doubles match for the Clippers by default to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Andrey Boldarev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and junior Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) would earn a close 8-6 victory in the No. 1 match over Younes Hidass and Christopher Baron.

The No. 2 doubles match would be the most difficult battle as sophomore's Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) and Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) would fight their way to a 9-8 (7) win for Concordia over Andre Pellegrino and Nikolaj Wulff to take a 3-0 lead into the singles matches.

In singles play Piludu would battle his way to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Wulff in the No. 2 match to begin the action. Both Majauskas and sophomore Juuso Ojanen (Varkaus, Finland) finished their respective matches at the same time with Ojanen taking a 6-1, 6-2 win over Adam Pizow in the No. 6 match and Majauskas took a 6-1, 6-4 victory in his No. 4 match against Pellegrino.

With the three singles wins the Clippers secured a 6-0 victory and earned a spot in the NCAA Round of 16. Concordia will take on Northwest Mo. St. in Surprise, Ariz. on Wednesday, May 8th at 7am.
