No. 10 Clippers Knock off Division I Fairleigh Dickinson, 8-1

Bronxville, N.Y. – The 10th-ranked Clippers men's tennis team hosted Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University on Tuesday afternoon at the Meyers Tennis Center. Concordia would capture their 10th straight victory after knocking off the Knights, 8-1, to improve to 20-0 against FDU since the 1978 season.

The Clippers began the afternoon with a sweep in doubles play. Senior Andrey Boldarev (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) and junior Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) would battle hard to a 9-7 win in their #1 match over Arvis Berzins and Ibrahim Shams.

Sophomore's Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) and Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) grabbed an 8-3 victory in their #2 match over Mark Hemy and Peter Skvarka while the duo of senior's Andreas Lindell (Helsingborg, Sweden) and David Tisserand (Lyon, France) were victorious over Yuri Gricheno and Julien Philippe in the #3 match, 8-6.

Concordia would take three singles matches in straight sets as Piludu began with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the #2 match over Shams. Majauskas followed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory in his #5 match over Skvarka while Boldarev earned a 7-5, 6-3 win over Berzins in the #1 match.

Sophomore Juuso Ojanen (Varkaus, Finland) went three sets against Markus Sjoberg as Ojanen edged out a 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 win in the #6 match. The Clippers' final victory of the day would come in the #4 match as Olfans defeated Hemy 7-5, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (5).

Fairleigh Dickinson's lone win came in the #3 singles match as the Knights' Gricheno would take a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Concordia's Tisserand.

The Clippers (15-2, 6-0 CACC) will now prepare for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships which is set to kick off on Saturday. Concordia will face the University of the Sciences in the opening match of the tournament which is set for 10pm at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pa.
