No. 10 Clippers Roll Past USciences, 9-0

Philadelphia, Pa. – The 10th-ranked Concordia Clippers men's tennis team visited the University of the Sciences on Thursday afternoon for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match. This would be the third straight conference match in as many days for Concordia and the team still looked sharp out on the court as they picked up the 9-0 victory at the McNeil Field Courts.

The Clippers grabbed a 3-0 overall advantage after taking control of the doubles matches. The duo of junior Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) and senior David Tisserand (Lyon, France) would take an 8-0 win in their #2 match against the Devils' Julian Katzev and William Metz in the early going.

Concordia followed with another 8-0 win, this time at the hands of sophomore's Juuso Ojanen (Varkaus, Finland) and Ricardo Frey's (Curitiba, Brazil) victory over Joshua Garcia and Paul Bedway in the #3 match.

An 8-2 win for sophomore's Benas Majauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) and Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) would cap doubles play as the duo took down Jake Sosonkin and David Kazakevich in the #1 match.

In singles competition, four of the six matches would go in favor of the Clippers with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Piludu defeated Kazakevich in the #1 singles match and then Majauskas was victorious over Katzev in the #3 match. Tisserand and Ojanen would earn the other two 6-1, 6-0 wins for Concordia in their respective matches against Metz and Garcia.

Frey's match would be the only shutout in singles play as he captured a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Bedway in the #6 match. The last remaining match would be Olfans' #2 match and he worked to a 7-5, 6-4 win over Sosonkin to secure the 9-0 victory for the Clippers.

With the win today Concordia has clinched at least a share of the regular season title with Chestnut Hill. A win for the Clippers in their final match will give them sole possession of the regular season title for the fourth straight season.

Concordia (12-2, 5-0 CACC) will take a break for their CACC schedule to visit the University of the District of Columbia on Sunday afternoon. The Firebirds are the second ranked team in the NCAA Division II East Region right behind the Clippers. The match will begin at 12:30pm in Washington D.C.
