#7 Concordia Comes up Short against #9 Lander, 6-3

Florence, SC – The seventh-ranked Concordia College Clippers men's tennis team took on the ninth-ranked Lander University Bearcats in Concordia's first of three matches in South Carolina. The Clippers fell behind 2-1 following doubles play and were unable to rebound, dropping a 6-3 decision.

In doubles competition, Concordia's Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) and Geza Bazula (Budapest, Hungary) captured the lone doubles win with a 9-8 (8) victory in the #2 match. Ricardo Frey (Curitiba, Brazil) and Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) fell in their #1 doubles match, 8-5, while David Tisserand (Lyon, France) and Andreas Lindell (Helsingborg, Sweden) dropped an 8-5 decision as well.

Piludu, the twentieth-ranked singles player, won 6-3, 6-2 over forty-first-ranked Vincent Verpeaux in the #1 singles match as Tisserand captured the other singles victory 6-2, 6-4 at #3 singles. Bazula dropped a 6-2, 7-6 decision at #2 singles to the sixteenth-ranked player Paul-Henri Arrigoni.

Lindell and Mark Mozer (Brest, Belarus) battled their way to three sets in their respective matches. Lindell, at #4 singles, fell 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 while Mozer fell 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 in his #5 singles match. Olfans concluded the event with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat in the #6 match as Lander captured their 16th victory of the season.

The Clippers (13-7, 6-0 CACC) will next face Wingate University on Friday afternoon. The match will take place at 2pm on the campus of Francis Marion University.
