#7 Clippers Win 6-3 over #24 Queens (NY) in Final Regular Season Home Match

Bronxville, NY – The seventh-ranked Concordia College Clippers men's tennis team battled the twenty-fourth-ranked Queens College Knights on Monday afternoon in a non-conference match. After trailing 2-1 at the conclusion of doubles play, the Clippers rallied to claim a 6-3 victory as Concordia finished the season with a perfect eight wins and zero losses at home.

In doubles competition, the Clippers' Daniele Piludu (Cagliari, Italy) and Geza Bazula (Budapest, Hungary) captured the lone doubles win with an 8-1 victory over the twelfth-ranked doubles team of Nikolaj Wulff and Attila Toth in the #1 match. Ricardo Frey (Curitiba, Brazil) and Tomasz Olfans (Opole, Poland) fell in their #2 doubles match, 8-1, while David Tisserand (Lyon, France) and Mark Mozer (Brest, Belarus) dropped an 8-4 decision.

With Concordia trailing 2-1, the team looked to their singles play to finish strong in the match. Tisserand's #3 singles match would be the first to be completed with a 6-1, 6-2 win for the Clippers. Piludu, the twentieth-ranked singles player, won 6-4, 6-0 over fifteenth-ranked Toth in the #1 singles match to give Concordia a 3-2 overall lead.

Bazula would knock off a nationally ranked player as well in his 6-7 (2-4), 6-4, 5-3 (retired) victory at #2 singles over forty-fourth-ranked Tyrone Ewels. Frey's 6-4, 6-1 win in the #6 singles match gave the Clippers their fifth victory to clinch the overall win.

Mozer claimed a 6-7 (3-5), 6-4, 6-4 win at #5 singles for Concordia's final match victory of the day while Olfans fell at #4 singles 7-5, 6-7 (0-2), 6-1 to give Queens their third match win.

The Clippers (13-6, 6-0 CACC) will next travel to South Carolina for their final three regular season matches before the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament. Concordia will take on the ninth-ranked Lander University Bearcats at 2:30 pm this Thursday.
