Clippers upset #1 Barry University

Clippers upset #1 Barry University

The Clipper Men's Team finished their annual Spring Break trip as they faced #1 Barry University.  The Clippers, who fell to the defending NCAA II Champions last May in the NCAA Semifinals, looked to gain some ground on Barry, who has been a thorn in their side.

Andrey Boldarev and Daniele Piludu teamed up at the number one doubles flight to give the Clippers a point on the board.  Boldarev and Piludu were evened up at 6-6 before pushing a little bit further for a service break and then a service hold for an 8-6 victory.  Felix Missal and David Tisserand gave the Clippers another point, this time at the number two doubles position.  With just three games passing the Clipper pair by, Missal and Tisserand were able to grab the 8-3 win.

Barry cut the Clipper lead in half as they picked up a point at the number three doubles flight.  Dobrotka and Bazula pushed their match to 7-7.  Unfortunately the Clipper pair fell in the next game and then the match 7-9.

With the Clippers up 2-1, singles matches kicked into gear.  Barry collected two points, one at the number two position and one at the number three position.  Daniele Piludu, #2 singles, fell in straight sets 3-6; 4-6 while David Tisserand took his match to three sets once again, but unfortunately fell 0-6; 6-0; 2-6.

The remaining four Clippers were able to step up and earn the last four points of the day to pull off the upset of the top ranked team in the country.  Andrey Boldarev was victorious at the number one singles flight defeating the current #1 singles player in the country with a three set victory 6-1; 2-6; 6-4 score.  Dobrotka continued his fine form at the number four singles position with a straight set 6-3; 6-4 victory for the Clippers fourth point of the team match.

Geza Bazula at number five singles, went to three sets as well, collecting a 7-6 (8-6); 0-6; 10-6 win.  The sixth and final point for the Clippers was earned by Andreas Lindell at number six singles.  Lindell won in straight sets 6-4; 7-6 (9-7) to complete the upset.

With the win over Barry, the Clippers collected a perfect 4-0 Florida week and return to New York with a 6-0 overall record and look to move up in the national rankings.

The Clippers next three matches will be March 14th, 15th, & 16th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
