Andrey Boldarev has been honored as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Tennis Player of the Year in balloting released by the conference office. Boldarev's teammate, Daniele Piludu, has been tabbed the CACC Rookie of the Year, while Neil Tarangioli of Concordia was named Coach of the Year. Concordia Rivals to the north, Post University was given the annual Team Sportmanship Award.
Of the eigth All-Conference pciks, five are from Concordia, including all four members of the first team.
Boldarev, a junior who hails from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, is ranked #10 in the country and first in the East Region in singles, while standing sixth in the country in doubles with his partner, Piludu. They are top-ranked doubles team in the region. Boldarev has defeated four of the top 10 singles players in the country this season, and upended a pair of top-10 doubles squads with Piludu. Boldarev is 16-4 at No. 1 singles this year and 15-4 overall in doubles with two partners (Piludu and Felix Missal). Boldarev was perfect against competition from the CACC this season.
Piludu, a freshman from Cagliari, Italy, was named to the
All-Conference first team in addition to claiming Rookie of the
Year honors. He is one of the highest ranked freshmen in
Division II and stands 28th in the country in singles and second in
the region. He is also sixth in the country in doubles and
first in the region. Piludu stands 12-2 overall in singles
this season, primarily at the No. 2 spot. He is also 2-0 at
No. 1 singles and sports an 11-4 overall mark in doubles. He
went undefeated against CACC foes in both singles and doubles this
season.
Tarangioli, who has guided the Clippers since 1980, was named
Coach of the Year for the second straight season. He guided
the third-ranked Clippers to their second consecutive conference
championship last week with a 5-0 win over Philadelphia
Unviersity.
Along with Boldarev and Piludu, Geza Bazula and David Tisserand were honored as first team All-Conference and Tamas Dobrotka on second team All-Conference.
Tisserand, a freshman from Roquefort la Bedoule, France, hosts a
12-5 singles record and an 18-5 doubles record in doubles
(partnered up with Andreas Lindell and Felix Missal).
Tisserand is currently ranked 4th in singles and 4th in doubles
with Lindell in the East Region.
Geza Bazula, a junior from Budapest, Hungary, currently is ranked
6th in the region in singles as he hosts a 12-3 overall
record. Bazula is nationally ranked 32nd in doubles with
Tamas Dobrotka and they are ranked 2nd in the region. Bazula
and Dobrotka are 15-3 in doubles together.
Tamas Dobrotka, a senior from Ada Serbia, is ranked 5th in the
region in singles with a 16-2 singles overall record.
Concordia advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament semi-finals last year and will begin another NCAA run in May. The team is currently 21-2 overall.
