Long Island, NY - Alex Grubin and Andreas Lindell win singles tournaments at Stony Brook Invitational

The Clippers men's tennis team participated in the Stony Brook Invitational over the weekend.  The Clippers had two doubles teams in flight A and one doubles team in flight B the tournament.  Tamas Dobrokta and Andreas Lindell unfortunately fell in the first round of the Flight B bracket 8-4.  Raphael Namias and partner Felix Missal were successful in their first round with an 8-1 win and then in the quarterfinals with an 8-6 victory.  Namias and Missal were unfortunately stopped in the semifinals.  Alex Grubin and Andrey Boldarev defeated their first round 8-5 and then went 8-5 again to place them in the semifinal round.  Grubin and Boldarev just missed out on the finals as they lost to the Flight A winners in a tiebreak. 

On the singles side for the Clippers seven tennis players competed in the four Flights.  Dane Ostilly, Flight D, unfortunately was defeated in the first round of the tournament 8-1.  Flight B saw the play Tamas Dobrotka and Raphael Namias.  Dobrotka defeated his first round opponent 8-1. Dobrotka then struggled in his quarterfinal match but pulled it out with a three set win of 6-1; 2-6; 10-6.  Namias would be victorious in his first round as well as he won 8-3.  He would then head to the semifinals with a 6-4; 7-6 win.  Both Dobrotka and Namias fell in the semifinals of Flight B. 

Andreas Lindell and Felix Missal were lined up in Flight C.  Felix Misall cruised in through the first round with an 8-1 win.  He then saw his quarterfinal match go to a third set but pushed through and won 6-2; 3-6; 10-4.  Missal struggled in the semis and fell in straight sets.  Andreas Lindell cruised straight through to the semifinals with an 8-2 win in the first round and then a 6-2; 6-0 win in the quarterfinal round.  The semifinal match for Lindell was his toughest of the tournament as he moved into the finals with a 6-2; 7-5 win.  Lindell dominated the finals match of Flight C with a 6-1; 6-1 win.

Flight A saw another Clippers Champion with Alex Grubin.  Grubin defeated his first round opponent 8-5 then cruising into the semifinals with a 6-2; 6-0 dominating victory in the quarters.  Grubin was up in his semifinal round 6-2; 1-0 when his opponent retired pushing Grubin into the finals. Alex Grubin controlled the tempo and defeated his opponent in the final match of Flight A 6-2; 6-2.  Andrey Boldarev was also in action in Flight A as he won 8-2 in his first round and then headed to the semifinals with a 6-1;6-2 victory.  Boldarev won the first set of his semifinal match but just missed the finals with in the third set tie break. 

Andrey Boldarev and Alex Grubin will be in action this coming weekend in Alabama for the ITA National Tournament
