NEWARK, Del. – The Concordia College New York men's soccer team scored more goals on eighth-ranked nationally and top-seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Wilmington University (Del.) than any team has this season on Monday afternoon, using back-to-back goals from junior forward Dennis Limani (Norderstadt, Germany) and junior forward Nemanja Zivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) within a three-minute stretch midway through the second half to make it a one-goal game at 4-3 before an equal response from the host ended the rally in a 7-4 setback.
NOTES
• Concordia ends the season with a 7-11 overall record.
• Wilmington improves to 17-1-1.
• Recently tabbed CACC All-Conference First Team honoree Zivanovic ends the season with 15 goals, tied for the fifth-most in program history, while his 36 points sits eighth.
• The four goals are the most Wilmington have surrendered since a 4-0 setback against LIU Post in the 2016 season.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Limani took a team-high five shots with three on target en route to his personal-best three goals
• Senior midfielder Elad Katz (Tel Aviv, Israel) scored his first goal of the year with one assist for a season-best three points.
• Sophomore forward Michael Lin (Hillsdale, N.J.) dished out an assist.
• Zivanovic logged an assist in the setback.
• Junior keeper Mikael Varin (Toulouse, France) matched his career-best which is also ties for program-record with 11 saves.
• For Wilmington, Abdul Mansaray and Lorne Bickley scored two goals with one assist apiece while Shawn Genus scored once with two assists with Joe Bell and Nick Langat each adding one score.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Wilmington took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of play with Bentdal finding Genus.
• Limani evened the score with a goal off a free kick in the sixth minute.
• Genus connected with Bickley in the eighth minute to give Wilmington a 2-1 lead.
• Mansaray scored an unassisted goal in the 56th minute to extend the separation to 3-1.
• Bickley scored his second goal of the contest in the 61st minute off a pass from Mansaray to make it 4-1.
• Lin and Katz got the ball to Zivanovic in the 68th minute to make it 4-2.
• Limani made it a one-goal game in the 70th minute with his second goal of the match.
• Back-to-back scores from Mansaray and Bell in the 73rd and 78th minute recreated the three-goal separation at 6-3.
• Zivanovic connected with Katz in the 82nd minute to make it 6-4.
• Langat ended the scoring in the 86th minute.
