BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Under the guidance of interim head coach Jose Dos Santos, the Concordia College New York men's soccer team returned to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship for the fifth time in program history during the 2018 season with a winning record in league play via a 6-5-1 mark while going 6-8-2 overall.
Opening the season with a 2-2 draw at Stonehill College, Concordia suffered back-to-back setbacks to Southern Connecticut State College and Georgian Court University before winning its first match of the year in a back-and-forth 5-4 triumph at Felician University. Concordia ended the opening month of the campaign with a 3-3 mark in CACC action, adding back-to-back victories over Dominican College (N.Y.) and Nyack College while falling against Chestnut Hill College and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship participant Wilmington University (Del.).
The Clippers began Oct. with back-to-back 3-2 victories, capped by an overtime triumph against Holy Family University after defeating Caldwell University, before dipping out of conference action to take on Queens College (N.Y.). Following back-to-back double-overtime matches via a 4-3 setback at Bloomfield College and 0-0 tie with Jefferson University, the Clippers fell to eventual CACC Champions Post University. Concordia ended the regular season with a 3-0 shutout victory over Goldey-Beacom College, jumping the Clippers to the fifth seed in the CACC Championship. In the conference tournament, Concordia fell to fourth-seed Jefferson.
Freshman forward Marlon Buck (Vienna, Austria) earned CACC Rookie of the Week twice during the regular season, with his second nod including Co-Player of the Week plaudit. Buck garnered CACC Rookie of the Year accolades, the first in program history, on top of CACC All-Conference First Team distinction with senior Jaime Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) concluding his collegiate career as a three-time All-Conference honoree with Second-Team honors. Buck also earned Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) All-East Region Second Team honors.
For their work in the classroom, sophomore forward Jun Cho (Johns Creek, Ga.), junior midfielder Elad Katz (Tel Aviv, Israel), sophomore forward Dennis Limani (Norderstedt, Germany) and senior forwards Sergio Matias (Ossining, N.Y.) and John Reed (Longford, Ireland) all landed on the CACC All-Academic Team.
Led by Buck's 14 goals, the sixth-most in program history, the men's soccer team tied for the ninth-most goals in a season with 32 total.
Gonzalez ended his tenure protecting the Clippers' goal with his name etched all over the program record, boasting the second-most career minutes (3836:06), saves (215) and victories (19) with the third-most shutouts (nine).
