BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College (N.Y.) men's soccer team looked poised to give its seniors a victory in their final home match on Tuesday afternoon, creating a 2-0 lead early in the opening half before five-unanswered goals for visiting Post University propelled them to a 5-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory. After the match, the Clippers honored the senior class of Jaime Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) Esteban Ospina, John Reed (Longford, Ireland), Chris Panzenbeck (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and Sergio Matias (Ossing, N.Y.)
NOTES
• Concordia drops to 5-7-2 overall, 5-5-1 in CACC play.
• Post improves to 9-6-1, 8-2-1 in CACC action.
• Despite the result, the Clippers clinched their berth in the 2018 CACC Championship as Bloomfield College and Goldey-Beacom College both lost today to eliminate them from postseason contention.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Gonzalez recorded five saves, making him the third Clipper to eclipse 200 career saves with 202. He is one save away from matching Ivan Rodriguez's total for the second-most in a career dating back to the 1995 season.
• Sophomore forward Dennis Limani (Norderstedt, Germany) tallied a goal and assist.
• Reed found the back of the in his final contest at Holtdorf Soccer Field.
• For Post, Alvaro Sanchez tallied two goals while Sergio Diaz scored one with two assists and Sergio Sanchez and Phillmon Bedard-Khalid had one goal and one assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Limani scored on a penalty-kick attempt in the 16th minute to give Concordia a 1-0 lead.
• Limani found Reed in the 23rd minute, with Reed heading the ball into the goal to create a 2-0 score.
• Diaz found Sanchez for back-to-back scores in the 27th and 42nd minutes to make it a 2-all score at halftime.
• Post took the lead in the 58th minute with Samuel Urban finding Bedard-Khalid to take a 3-2 advantage.
• Bedard-Khalid found Sanchez in the 69th minute to extend the separation, with Sanchez assisting on a Diaz goal in the 75th minute to create the final score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Concordia finished the match with 19 shots, eight on target, versus 16 for the Eagles with 10 on goal.
• Both sides took five corner kicks.
• Concordia received one caution while Post received three.
