Men's Soccer Bounces Back with a 4-2 Victory at Caldwell as Oakley Nets Two Goals

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Concordia Clippers men's soccer team bounced back from their recent defeat with a 4-2 victory at Caldwell University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Wednesday afternoon. Concordia has now won six of their last eight games overall.

The Clippers took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute as graduate Ovan Oakley (Kingston, Jamaica) sent a cross into the 18-yard box for freshman Freddy Nava (Yonkers, N.Y.) to strike home his second goal of the season. Concordia held the Cougars off the scoreboard in the first half as the Clippers went into halftime with the one-goal advantage.

Caldwell would come out in the second half with a goal in the 53rd minute as Jesper Stenberg sent a cross to Joaquin Escudero for the header. Concordia gained the advantage again in the 62nd minute as freshman Cristian Perez (Boynton Beach, Fla.) took a shot from the top of the 18-yard box for his first collegiate goal.

The Cougars continued to battle as they managed to score the equalizer in the 76th minute as a chip pass from Tom Yorston found Escudero for his second goal of the game and knot the score at 2-2.

Oakley would put the game away for the Clippers as he scored twice in the final eight-plus minutes of the game. In the 82nd minute Oakley chipped a shot pass the Caldwell goalkeeper with an assist credited to Perez. With 41 seconds to go in the game, Ovan added his team-leading eighth goal of the season to secure the 4-2 victory for Concordia.

Sophomore Jaime Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) finished the game with two saves for the Clippers as Concordia held a 13-9 shot advantage and both teams had six corner kick opportunities.

The Clippers (6-4-0, 5-2-0 CACC) will return home on Saturday afternoon for a CACC game against Philadelphia University.
