Nyack, N.Y. - The Concordia College men's soccer team would earn their first win of the 2013 season after shutting out Nyack in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
In the final minute of the first half the Clippers would score their first goal as senior Victor Ruiz (Gijon, Spain) took a shot which got past the Warriors' keeper. In the first 45 minutes of play Concordia out-shot Nyack 8-4.
The second half saw both teams taking more shots on goal but only one more would find the back of the net as sophomore Ovan Oakley (Kingston, Jamaica) scored his first goal with the Clippers less than two minutes into the half.
Sophomore Ruel Gordon (Savanna La Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica) would record his fourth career shutout for Concordia after recording five saves in the game. Nyack held a 19-18 edge in shots and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Clippers (1-1, 1-0 CACC) will be back in action on Saturday as the team will visit Holy Family for a CACC matchup. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. as fans unable to attend can follow the action via live stats on ConcordiaClippers.com.
Game Notes:
Concordia has only won their opening CACC game twice in the past five seasons since joining the conference in 2009.
Concordia is now 7-7 against Nyack since 1978 and have won their last three matchups.
Victor Ruiz now has six goals with the Clippers in his career.
Ruel Gordon now has 95 saves in 14 career games (6.79 SPG).
