Concordia Shuts Out St. Thomas Aquinas on the Road, 2-0

Suffern, N.Y. – The Concordia men's soccer team battled St. Thomas Aquinas College on Monday afternoon in a non-conference match. The Clippers earned their first shutout victory with a 2-0 advantage over the Spartans for their second win of the season.

Concordia would take a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute as senior Mario Fantozzi (Naples, Italy) sent a cross into the box and Courtney Cunningham (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) would head the ball into the back of the net for his first goal of the season. The Clippers would out-shoot St. Thomas Aquinas 7-4 in the opening 45 minutes as Concordia also held a 3-0 advantage on corner kicks.

In the second half the Clippers would add a second goal as Jonathan Short (Tottenham, Canada) scored his first goal of the season off a pass in the box by Rasheem Eccleston (Montego Bay, Jamaica). The Spartans were unable to score a goal in the game as their best opportunity came in the closing minutes of the game with a penalty kick opportunity. Concordia goalkeeper Ruel Gordon (Savanna La Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica) would make the save, one of his nine on the day, to preserve the shut out.

The Clippers (2-5-1, 0-3-1 CACC) will next host Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Post University on Wednesday afternoon.
