Concordia Drops 2-1 Decision at Stonehill

Easton, Mass. – Fresh off a victory in their opening game of the 2012 season, Concordia was back on the pitch Saturday morning to take on the Skyhawks of Stonehill College. A go-ahead goal early in the second half for the Skyhawks secured the victory as the Clippers suffered a 2-1 loss.

Stonehill would grab an early lead in the 20th minute of action with a header that found the back of the net. Minutes later Concordia responded with a goal of their own to tie the game at 1-1. Mario Fantozzi (Naples, Italy) dribbled the ball into the Skyhawks' defense and chipped it to Ekene Okereke (Beliefield, Germany). Okereke then took a low shot towards the left side of the goal which slipped pass Stonehill's goalkeeper to give the junior his third goal in two games.

At the half the score remained knotted at 1-1 but five minutes into the second half the Skyhawks scored the go-ahead goal off another header in the box for a goal. The Clippers struggled to find their rhythm offensively as the team combined for only one shot in the half while Stonehill kept goalkeeper Luis Barajas (Port Chester, N.Y.) busy by taking 12 shots.

Concordia (1-1-0, 0-0-0 CACC) will have a few days off to prepare for their next opponent. The Clippers will open up their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Wednesday, September 5th on the road at Felician. Kickoff will take place at 5pm in Rutherford, N.J.
