Clippers Lose another Close Match, 3-2 to West Chester

West Chester, PA –The Concordia College Clippers men's soccer team traveled to West Chester University this evening to face the Golden Rams in a non-conference match. The lone second half goal by the Golden Rams broke the tie and secured the 3-2 victory.

Senior David Mero (Randolph, NJ) got the scoring started as he scored his fourth goal of the season to give the Clippers an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. Concordia would add another goal in the 14th minute by Alessandro Persampieri (Tuckahoe, NY). It was starting to look like the Clippers would run away with the game.

West Chester would net their first goal in the 20th minute to get them back into the game. Another goal in the 44th minute knotted the game at 2-2 heading into halftime.

The second half looked to be anyone's game as solid defense by both sides would be showcased. It was not until the 76th minute that the tie would be broken by way of the Golden Rams. This would also be the game winners as West Chester held on to secure their third victory of the season.

Oscar Acosta-Mendez (Bogota, Columbia) recorded four saves as the Clippers' goalkeeper while Garrett Bleiler (Allentown, PA) stopped three shots for West Chester. Concordia was outshot 16-7 and allowed the Golden Rams to attempt 12 corner kicks.

The Clippers (2-8-0, 2-3-0 CACC) will get back into their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Saturday as they will travel to Wilmington (DE). The match is set to begin at 7:30pm in New Castle, DE.
