Clippers Downed in Close Match, 1-0 by St. Rose

Albany, NY –The Concordia College Clippers men's soccer team took a game off from their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule to face St. Rose College. In a close match, the Clippers were held scoreless and the Golden Knights won their first game of the season, 1-0.

The lone goal of the game was scored in the 28th minute. The Golden Knights' Giancarlo Montenegro (Pembroke, NH) scored his first goal of the season as he was able to recover a loose ball that was miss-handled by Clippers' goalkeeper Oscar Acosta-Mendez (Bogota, Columbia). Montenegro was able to trickle the ball past the reach of Acosta-Mendez after he gained control for the eventual game winner.

The defense for St. Rose would step up their play to keep Concordia off the scoreboard. The Clippers outshot the Golden Knights 16-10 but goalkeeper Patrik Ohlsson (Sodertalje, Sweden) recorded nine saves in the shutout while Acosta-Mendez made four saves.

Concordia (2-7, 2-3 CACC) will play another non-conference game as they travel to West Chester University on Thursday. The match is set to begin at 4pm in West Chester, PA.
