Late Goal Lifts Caldwell Over Concordia (N.Y.), 2-1

Caldwell, N.J. – Fresh off their first win of the season, the Concordia College (N.Y.) Clippers men's soccer team was back in action this afternoon to face Caldwell College. A late second half goal allowed the Cougars to secure the 2-1 victory in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup.

Caldwell would be the first to score as Mosiah Whyte (Coram, N.Y.) netted his team leading ninth goal of the season at the 17th minute. Whyte received a pass from the left side of the field and shot it over the head of Clippers' goalkeeper Oscar Acosta-Mendez (Bogota, Columbia) from about 10 yards away.

Minutes away from the end of the first half, senior David Mero (Randolph, N.J.) scored the equalizer in the top corner of the goal. Mero received a pass up the middle of the field from Xhovano Dardha (Shkoder, Albania) for his first goal of the season.

In the 78th minute, the Cougars scored the game winner off a header from Steve Petrosino (Toms River, N.J.) which hit the goal post before going into the net. The pass came courtesy of a corner kick by Kristopher Bistre (Staten Island, N.Y.).

Acosta-Mendez recorded two saves in 90 minutes of play while the Clippers outshot Caldwell 22-14. Five of the six total games played by Concordia this season have been decided by one goal.

Concordia (1-5, 1-2 CACC) will look to rebound after the tough loss. The Clippers will travel to face Holy Family on Saturday, Sep. 24 for a 2:30pm kickoff.
