BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Led by a career-high 21 points from sophomore forward Devon Sims (Centreville, Va.) and a defense that held visiting Dominican College (N.Y.) to its lowest point total of the 2019-20 season on Wednesday evening, the Concordia College New York men's basketball team defended the Meyer Athletic Center against the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Champions in a 72-68 overtime triumph.
NOTES
• Concordia improves to 2-14, 1-6 in league play.
• Dominican, receiving votes in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) National Poll, falls to 12-4 overall, 5-2 in CACC action.
• It is the first time Dominican has been held to under 70 points in a game this season. The Chargers' 86.6 points per game average heading into the contest ranked 26th nationally.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sims connected on a personal-record 10 field goals while adding six rebounds and three steals.
• Junior guard Jared Young (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) chipped in 13 points with a career-high matching five assists and two steals.
• Freshman guard Chauncey Sterling (Wilingboro, N.J.) scored 10 points off the bench with four boards and two assists.
• Senior forward Jesse Breeding (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) fell one rebounds shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds on top of two rejections.
• For Dominican, Jalen Burgess scored 22 points with 12 rebounds while Daraja Rodwell dished out five assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Neither side scored a field goal over the opening three minutes of play, with a Dominican free throw serving as the lone points during the stretch before a Chargers' triple gave the visitors a 4-0 lead with 16:37 remaining in the half.
• The Clippers rallied behind a 9-5 stretch to knot the score, with each side scoring a basket to keep the score tied before back-to-back baskets from Concordia made it 15-11 with 12:16 remaining.
• Concordia created a double-digit lead behind a 9-2 stretch to make it 24-13, and responded to a four straight points with a three-point play to keep the separation in double-digits at 27-17 with 7:45 remaining.
• The two sides split the ensuing 18 points to maintain the 10-point advantage before a quick 8-0 Dominican run made it a one-possession game at 36-34 with 56 seconds left in the half.
• Breeding ended the half with a layup, creating a 38-34 score at the intermission.
• After splitting the opening eight points of the second half, the Clippers connected on back-to-back baskets to pull ahead 46-38 with 13:51 remaining in regulation.
• Dominican knotted the score at 46-all behind an 8-0 run, with two sides going back-and-forth over the following eight points before consecutive baskets from Concordia gave the host a 54-50 advantage with 8:58 left in the half.
• The Chargers used a 6-0 run to take a the lead at 56-54, but back-to-back baskets form Young flipped the two-point advantage in Concordia's favor at 58-56 with 5:26 remaining in the half.
• The visitors responded with a 5-0 run to take a 61-58 lead.
• Trailing 64-60 with under two minutes to play, Concordia scored the final four points of regulation to force overtime.
• Following a Sims layup sandwiched by a pair of Chargers' free throws to keep the score tied 66-all, Young connected on a three-point play to give Concordia a 69-66 advantage with 2:13 left.
• Dominican got within one point off a layup on the ensuing possession, but Concordia held the Chargers without another point while adding three to its total to secure the win.

• The Clippers converted 30-71 shots, going 4-17 from three-point territory and 8-14 from the free throw line.
• Dominican finished 19-62 from the field, 3-23 from distance and 27-36 from the free throw line.
• Concordia recorded 16 assists while Dominican had 14.
• Dominican held a 53-40 advantage in rebounds.
• Concordia committed 18 turnovers, resulting in 19 points for the Chargers. Dominican had 24 turnovers, leading to 21 points.
• Concordia' bench scored 19 points while the visitors got 20 from its bench.
• Concordia recorded eight steals with two blocks while Dominican stole the ball five times with six blocks.
