GARDEN CITY, N.Y. –Junior forward Alex White Jr. (Middletown, Conn.) matched the Concordia College New York men's basketball program's record for blocks in a game on Sunday afternoon with five rejections, helping the Clippers jump out to a strong start to the second half to quickly even the score against Adelphi University before a late run by the host propelled them to an 82-62 result.
NOTES
• Concordia falls to 1-8.
• Adelphi improves to 5-2.
• The block total by White Jr. is the most since Jared Smith logged five against Saint Anselm College on Nov. 13, 2011. His program-record-matching total propels him into the top-three of career blocks with 63.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Sophomore Devon Sims (Centreville, Va.) scored a team-high 14 points.
• Freshman guard Dion Herrington (Englewood, N.J.) scored 12 points with four assists.
• Senior forward Jesse Breeding (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) chipped in 12 points with a pair of steals.
• White Jr. added eight points and seven rebounds to his five blocks.
• Senior guard Brandon Fields (Washington, D.C.) dished out five assists with two steals.
• Senior forward Anthony Barnes (Bowie, Md.) pulled down nine rebounds with two steals.
• For Adelphi, Chris Coalmon boasted 20 points with 16 rebounds and two blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Following a triple from Adelphi to kick off the scoring, Concordia used a 12-1 run with seven points of the stretch from Sims to give the Clippers a 12-4 advantage with 14:32 remaining in the half.
• Adelphi reclaimed the lead off three-straight three pointers, using a fourth triple after Herrington knotted the score off a free throw to make it 16-13 with 12:56 left in the half.
• Back-to-back threes from Breeding and Sims flipped the three-point lead in Concordia's lead, but an 8-0 run by the hosts made it 24-19 with 9:21 remaining in the half.
• Concordia got within one off back-to-back layups from Barnes and Sims, but the Panthers ended the half on an 11-4 run to hold a 35-27 halftime lead.
• Concordia began the second-half with a 10-2 run to quickly knot the score at 37-all with 15:06 remaining in the contest.
• Concordia took the lead at 44-43 off back-to-back baskets from White Jr., with Sims responding to an AU layup with a jump shot to keep the Clippers ahead before eight-straight points pushed the Panthers ahead at 54-46 with 9:50 left to play.
• Breeding ended the run with a dunk, but back-to-back threes sandwiching a Barnes layup created a double-digit separation at 60-50 with 8:05 remaining in the contest.
• Barnes connected on a layup to get the score within eight, while four-straight points off a pair of free throws from Fields and a Herrington jumper after a triple and layup from the Panthers made it a nine-point game at 65-56 before a 15-2 stretch created an 80-58 score with 1:20 left in the game.
• Redshirt-freshman guard Fabian Rial (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and sophomore guard Marquese Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa.) both scored layups in the last minute, while Adelphi added a pair of free throws to its total to create the final score.

• The Clippers converted on 24-68 shots, going 7-24 from three-point territory and 7-11 from the free throw line.
• Adelphi finished 28-66 from the field, 17-41 from distance and 9-13 from the free throw line.
• Concordia recorded 11 assists while Adelphi had 21.

• Concordia committed 10 turnovers, resulting in 14 points for the Panthers. Adelphi had 14 turnovers, leading to 10 points.

• Concordia recorded eight steals with six blocks while Adelphi stole the ball four times with five blocks.
