White Jr. Enters Top-Five Of Men’s Basketball’s Record Book For Career Blocks In 97-56 Setback At Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior forward Alex White Jr. (Middletown, Conn.) became the fourth member of the Concordia College New York men's basketball team to record 50-plus blocks in a career on Saturday evening, rejecting three shots against Bentley University in a 97-56 setback.

NOTES
• Concordia falls to 0-2.

• Bentley improves to 2-0.

• One of the premiere defenders in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) last season, ending the 2018-19 campaign with the fourth-highest blocks per game average in the league at 1.5, sits fourth in the program record book with 51 career blocks.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior guard Brandon Fields (Washington, D.C.) scored a team-high 13 points on 5-9 shooting with two assists.

• White Jr. pulled down a team-high seven rebounds on top of his team-high three rejections.

• Sophomore forward Devon Sims (Centreville, Va.) chipped in 10 points with a pair of steals.

• Senior guard Jesse Breeding (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) scored 11 points off the bench.

• For Bentley, Chris Hudson scored 21 points with eight rebounds while Jordan Mello-Klein recorded nine assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Bentley scored on its opening possession of the contest, with the Clippers responding behind a 5-2 stretch off baskets from Fields and Sims to take a 5-4 lead with 17:23 left in the half.

• The host used an 8-1 stretch to pull ahead 12-6 with 14:21 left in the half.

• Back-to-back baskets from Fields and Sims made it a one-possession contest at 12-10, but an 8-0 retort by Bentley created a 20-10 score with 10:16 remaining in the half

• Concordia countered with back-to-back triples from freshman guard Dan Porcic (Putnam, Conn.) and Fields, with the Clippers keeping the separation in single digits before a 4-0 spree by Bentley made it 31-20 with 5:43 remaining.

• Bentley ended the half on a 12-4 run to create a 43-24 score.

• White Jr. responded to Bentley's opening basket of the second half with a layup after Fields connected on a free throw in the opening minute to make it 45-27, only for a 15-0 run by the host creating a 60-27 score with 13:53 remaining in the contest.

• Senior forward Anthony Barnes (Bowie, Md.) ended the run on a layup, with Breeding connecting on a three-pointer before a pair of Bentley free throws made it 62-32 with 12:58 left to play.

• The two sides split the ensuing 10 points before a 16-6 stretch for the Falcons creating an 81-41 score with 6:35 left to play.

• Neither side connected on back-to-back baskets over the following five minutes of play, with a Breeding triple and junior guard Louis-Roger Fils-Aime (Paris, France) jumper making it 92-55 with 1:24 left in the contest.

• Redshirt-freshman guard Fabian Rial (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) scored the Clippers final point on a free throw, while the host added five points to its total to create the final score.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Clippers converted on 20-62 shots, going 7-26 from three-point territory and 9-20 from the free throw line.

• Bentley finished 32-60 from the field, 11-18 from distance and 22-25 from the free throw line.

• Concordia recorded seven assists while Bentley had 24.

• Bentley held a 53-24 advantage in rebounds.

• Concordia committed 12 turnovers, resulting in 22 points for the host. Bentley had 15 turnovers, leading to 10 points.

• Concordia' bench scored 23 points while the Falcons got 35 from its bench.

• Concordia recorded nine steals with seven blocks while Bentley stole the ball four times with five blocks.
