Men’s Basketball Opens 2019-20 Season At Bentley Tip-Off Classic

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College New York men's basketball team kicks off the 2019-20 season at the Bentley Tip-Off Classic, taking on nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College on Friday, Nov. 8 before facing the host Falcons on Saturday, Nov. 9. Tip-off for both contests is slated for 5 p.m.

About the Clippers
Concordia returns to the hardwood after a 9-19 season, going 6-13 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. The Clippers averaged 73.8 points on a .411 field goal percentage with 39.0 rebounds, 13.0 assists, 7.3 steals and 2.7 blocks.

Junior forward Alex White Jr. (Middletown, Conn.) is the top-returning scoring for Concordia, coming off a sophomore campaign where he chipped in 8.9 points on a .455 clip while ranking amongst the best in the CACC in rebounds and blocks behind rates of 8.1 and 1.5 which ended last year ranked sixth and fourth in the league respectively. Senior forward Jesse Breeding (Business Administration) and sophomore forward Devon Sims (Centreville, Va.) also return after making over 20 appearances each during the 2018-19 campaign.

About the Hawks
Ranked 21st in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Preseason Poll and 12th by the D2SIDA, Saint Anselm heads into the season following a 26-6 campaign last year that ended in the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship Semifinals. The Hawks averaged 82.4 points per game last season on a .489 clip with 38.7 rebounds, 16.2 assists, 4.9 steals and 3.0 blocks.

All-Northeast 10 Honorable Mention honoree Chris Paul returns for Saint Anselm following a 2018-19 season where he averaged 14.7 points and 6.1 rebounds. Gustav Suhr-Jessen, Alonzo Jackson and Danny Evans also are back for the Hawks after playing key roles in the team's semifinal run last year.

About the Falcons
Hosting a season-opening tip-off classic for the 10th-consecutive season, Bentley begins the new season after a 19-10 campaign last year. The Hawks averaged 79.6 points on a .469 field goal percentage with 36.9 rebounds, 13.1 assists, 5.0 steals and 2.4 blocks.

2019 All-NE10 Third-Team member Chris Hudson returns to Bentley after leading the team in rebounds and blocks last year with averages of 8.2 and 0.8 on top of 14.4 points which ranked third on the team. Jordan Mello-Klein represents the top-returning guard for the Falcons, coming off a 2018-19 campaign where he averaged a team-best 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals.
