WATERBURY, Conn. – The Concordia College New York men's basketball team concluded its 2018-19 season on Saturday afternoon at Post University, falling to the host Eagles 85-56 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
NOTES
• Concordia ends the season with a 9-19 record, 6-13 mark in CACC play.
• Post ends the season with a 10-18 record and 7-12 in league action.
• Senior forward Stephen Milhaven (Port Washington, N.Y.) ends his career with 1476 points and 818 rebounds, both ranking third in the program record book. Milhaven's career average of 7.4 boards ranks fourth all-time.
• Redshirt senior guard Cedrick McFadden (Washington, D.C.) ends his career with the second-most assists in program history with 377 while his 1107 points finishes eighth in the program record book. His career assist per game average of 3.9 finishes third.
• Sophomore forward Alex White Jr. (Middletown, Conn.) finished the year with 40 blocks, ranking fifth in the program record book. His 1.5 blocks per game average during the 2018-19 season ranks fourth, while his 8.1 rebounds per game sits as the ninth-highest average in program history.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• McFadden scored a team-high 13 points.
• Senior guard Michael Demello (White Plains, N.Y.) contributed 11 points with two steals and seven rebounds.
• Milhaven pulled down a team-leading eight rebounds.
• Sophomore guard Baron Goodridge (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded a team-high three assists with five rebounds and two steals.
• Senior guard Jayson Cethoute (Queens, N.Y.) scored 10 points with six rebounds.
• For Post, Levy Gillespie scored 19 points with Isiah Holmes recorded 11 rebounds and Tyshon Rogers tallying five assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Goodridge scored the opening basket of the contest, but a three pointer and layup for Post gave the host an early 5-2 lead with 18:13 left in the half.
• Concordia retook the lead at 9-8 after a McFadden triple and Cethoute layup back-to-back, only for consecutive baskets for the host creating a 12-9 score with 15:33 remaining in the half.
• A Cethoute layup and sophomore guard Jared Young (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) triple put Concordia ahead at 14-12, with Cethoute responding to a Post triple with back-to-back baskets to create an 18-15 lead with 13:33 left in the half.
• Post knotted the score at 18-all off a triple, with the Clippers answering via a junior forward Anthony Barnes (Bowie, Md.) layup and maintaining the advantage until a pair of triples from the host sandwiching a Demello jumper giving Post a 28-27 advantage with 6:27 remaining in the half.
• Concordia flipped the one-point lead with a Barnes layup, only for a 6-0 Post run propelling the Eagles to a 34-29 lead with 2:41 left in the half.
• Young ended the spree with a triple, with Post added a pair of free throws and layup to its lead before a Demello jumper in the final minute of the half created a 38-34 halftime score.
• Cethoute began the second half with the initial basket, but an 8-0 run for Post extended the separation to double-digits at 46-36 with 16:52 left to play.
• Post held Concordia without back-to-baskets for the bulk of the second half, creating an 83-52 lead off a 10-0 run before a freshman forward Devon Sims (Centreville, Va.) jumper and sophomore forward Andre Francis (Hartford, Conn.) layup made it 83-56 with 2:25 left to play.
• The host added a jumper to its lead to create the final score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Clippers converted on 24-75 shots, going 4-27 from three-point territory and 4-5 from the free throw line.
• Post finished 31-70 from the field, 13-29 from distance and 10-13 from the free throw line.
• Concordia recorded six assists while Post had 11.
• Post held a 46-45 advantage in rebounds.
• Concordia had 15 turnovers, resulting in 22 points for Post. The host had 13 turnovers, leading to 13 Clippers' points.
• Concordia' bench scored 20 points while Post got 33.
