White Jr. Enters Men’s Basketball’s Top-Five For Single-Season Blocks In 83-71 Setback To Felician

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Sophomore forward Alex White Jr.'s (Middletown, Conn.) season-long block party put him in elite company on Saturday afternoon, cracking the top-five of the Concordia College New York men's basketball team's record book for blocks in a season with two rejection against Felician University, but a 53-point second half for the host Golden Falcons was too much to overcome in an 83-71 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) setback.

NOTES
• Concordia falls to 9-17, 6-11 in CACC play.

• Felician improves to 13-11, 11-6 in league action.

• White Jr. currently has 40 blocks this season.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• White Jr. added eight rebounds to his two blocks.

• Senior guard Michael Demello (White Plains, N.Y.) scored a team-high 15 points with two steals and one block.

• Freshman forward Devon Sims (Centreville, Conn.) chipped in 12 points on top of a career-high eight rebounds.

• Sophomore guard Jared Young (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) posted 12 points with four assists and two steals.

• Sophomore guard Baron Goodridge (Bronx, N.Y.) tallied 10 points.

• For Felician, Zamir Wright boasted 26 points while Rahsaan Williams and Jay'von Jackson both recorded double-doubles behind 14 points with 14 rebounds and 14 points with 13 rebounds,
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Felician jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before a junior forward Jesse Breeding (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) three pointer made it 6-3 with 16:45 remaining in the half.

• The host extended the separation up to 14-6 off an 8-3 stretch before back-to-back baskets from Goodridge sparked an 8-0 rally to even the score at 14-all with 9:51 to play in the half.

• Felician held onto the advantage with a triple before back-to-back baskets from White Jr. and Young pushed the Clippers ahead 18-17 with 7:41 to play in the half.

• The two sides exchanged three pointers to keep Concordia ahead by one, only for back-to-back buckets for the hosts giving them a 24-21 edge with 4:28 to play.

• Concordia knotted the score at 24-all off a Sims free throw, taking the lead at 27-26 after a Demello three pointer in response to a pair of Felician free throws with 2:41 remaining in the half.

• Felician responded to the triple with a layup, and added a basket following a Sims layup to hold a 30-29 lead at halftime. 

• Concordia used a senior forward Stephen Milhaven (Port Washington, N.Y.) triple on its first possession of the second half to take a 32-31 lead, but a 5-0 run by Felician made it 38-32 with 17:54 remaining in the contest.

• The Clippers made it a one-possession contest at 40-38 off a 6-2 rally, with Concordia getting as close as one at 45-44 before a 12-0 run created a 57-44 score with 9:20 remaining in the contest.

• Concordia cut the deficit down to single digits at 59-50 off a Jared Young three pointer, and kept the separation at nine at 61-52 only for back-to-back triples sparking a 12-2 stretch to create a 73-54 score with 5:10 left to play.

• Concordia rallied and cut the separation down to 81-71 with 37 seconds remaining behind a 17-8 stretch but could not get any closer as Felician scored the final basket of the afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
• The Clippers converted on 28-75 shots, going 8-25 from three-point territory and 7-10 from the free throw line.

• Felician finished 31-67 from the field, 12-28 from distance and 9-16 from the free throw line.

• Concordia recorded 13 assists while Felician had 18.

• Felician held a 48-40 advantage in reboudns.

• Concordia had 17 turnovers, resulting in 17 points for Felician. The host had 20 turnovers, leading to 17 Clippers' points.

• Concordia' bench scored 45 points while the host got 14 from its bench.

• Concordia recorded 10 steals with four blocks while Felician stole the ball 12 times with three blocks.
