Goodridge Sets Career-High For Men’s Basketball In 73-69 Setback At Nyack

NYACK, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Baron Goodridge (Bronx, N.Y.) scored a career-high 25 points on Tuesday evening, 22 coming in the second half to help the Concordia College New York men's basketball team cut a 15-point deficit down to one with under a minute remaining but host Nyack College held onto its lead in a 73-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) setback.

• Concordia falls to 9-16, 6-10 in CACC play.

• Nyack improves to 5-19, 4-12 in league action.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Goodridge went 9-15 from the field, 5-7 from distance.

• Sophomore forward Alex White Jr. (Middletown, Conn.) pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds with a block.

• Redshirt senior guard Cedrick McFadden (Washington, D.C.) scored 15 points.

• Senior guard Michael Demello (White Plains, N.Y.) recorded a team-high two assists.

• For Nyack, Gemaal Davis scored 25 points with eight rebounds while Shawn Witherspoon dished out four assists to go with 13 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Concordia jumped out to an early 6-0 lead off back-to-back baskets from senior forward Stephen Milhaven (Port Washington, N.Y.) and a Demello jumper, with a Nyack three pointer cutting the lead in half at 6-3 with 17:36 remaining in the half.

• Nyack used the triple to stage a 7-2 rally that made it a one-point game at 8-7, but a 5-2 retort by the Clippers made it 13-9 with 14:02 to play in the half.

• The host evened the score at 15-all, with the two sides splitting the ensuing 12 points to keep the score tied at 21-21 before an 8-0 run by Nyack created a 29-21 score with 5:39 remaining in the half.

• Concordia cut the separation in half off back-to-back baskets, but a quick 10-2 stretch for Nyack extended the deficit to 36-27 with 1:12 remaining in the half.

• The Clippers scored five points in the final minute of the half off a Goodridge three pointer and freshman forward Devon Sims (Centreville, Va.) layup to create a 36-32 halftime score.

• Nyack scored the opening four points of the second half, sparking a 15-4 run that created a 51-36 separation with 14:47 left to play. 

• Goodridge brought the gap down to single digits with 10 consecutive points over two minutes of play to make it 51-46 with 12:43 remaining in the contest.

• The host responded with back-to-back baskets to recreate its double-digit advantage, while matching a 6-0 run by Concordia with one of its own to maintain its 10-point lead at 62-52 with 5:49 remaining in the contest.

• The Clippers made it a one-point game with 1:34 left to play at 67-66 behind a 14-5 rally, but three-consecutive free throws extended the separation to four at 70-66 with 15 seconds left.  

• McFadden brought the deficit down to one again off a triple with nine seconds remaining, with Nyack connecting on three free throws over the final 10 seconds to create the final score.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
• The Clippers converted on 28-60 shots, going 7-24 from three-point territory and 6-9 from the free throw line.

• Nyack finished 23-60 from the field, 9-20 from distance and 18-22 from the free throw line.

• Concordia recorded four assists while Nyack had 13.

• Concordia held a 37-36 advantage in rebounds.

• Concordia had 17 turnovers, resulting in 19 points for Nyack. The host had 15 turnovers, leading to 18 Clippers' points.

• Concordia' bench scored 33 points while the visitors got 16 from its bench.

• Concordia recorded four steals with two blocks while Nyack stole the ball seven times with three blocks.
