Men’s Basketball Edged At Southern Connecticut State, 97-76

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior forward Stephen Milhaven (Port Washington, N.Y.) led five Concordia College (N.Y.) men's basketball players that scored double-digit points on Wednesday afternoon with 17, with the balanced attack falling short against host Southern Connecticut State in a 97-76 decision.

• Concordia drops to 4-7.

• Southern Conn. improves to 7-5.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Milhaven added four rebounds to his team-leading point total.

• Sophomore forward Alex White Jr. (Middleton, Conn.) scored 16 points on 6-7 shooting with four rebounds.

• Senior Cedrick McFadden (Washington, D.C.) chipped in 12 point on top of a game-high nine assists.

• Junior guard Jesse Breeding (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) pulled down a personal-best seven rebounds with 10 points, two assists and a block.

• For Southern Conn., Isiah McLeod scored 26 points with 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
• Concordia began the contest with eight of the opening 10 points off three pointers from Milhaven and Breeding plus a jump shot from senior guard Michael Demello (White Plains, N.Y.) to hold an 8-2 advantage with 17:55 remaining in the half.

• The host used a 6-0 run to even the score at 15-all before a three-point shot from sophomore guard Jared Young (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) sparked an 8-0 Concordia retort with Breeding supplying the remaining five points to create a 23-15 lead with 12:44 to play in the half.

• Concordia maintained the advantage until a 10-0 SCSU rally propelled the Owls to a 33-31 lead with 4:39 remaining in the half.

• A Milhaven triple put the Clippers back in front, with a Southern Conn. three-point play flipping the advantage and making it 36-34 with 4:08 to go in the half.

• McFadden evened the score with a basket on the other end, but Southern Conn. outscored Concordia 10-6 down the stretch to hold a 46-42 lead at halftime.

• Southern Conn. used an 11-3 run to start the second half to create a double-digit separation at 57-45 with 17:39 remaining.

• The host continued to add to its lead throughout the half while holding Concordia without back-to-back baskets until consecutive McFadden baskets made it 87-69 with 4:26 remaining.

• Concordia used a late 5-0 spree to cut into the deficit and make it 90-74 with 2:19 remaining, but SCSU outscored Concordia 7-3 over the final two minutes.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
• The Clippers converted on 27-56 shots, going 12-18 from three-point territory and 10-15 from the free throw line.

• Southern Conn. finished 36-71 from the field, 10-34 from distance and 15-17 from the free throw line.

• Concordia dished out 15 assists versus 22 for the hosts.

• Concordia committed 18 turnovers, resulting in 24 points for SCSU. The Owls committed nine turnovers, leading to nine Clippers' points.

• SCSU held a 39-30 advantage in rebounds.

• Concordia' bench scored 10 points while Southern Conn. got 16 from its bench.

• Concordia recorded two steals and a block while SCSU stole the ball eight times.
