Men's Basketball Tops Saint Anselm in Season Opener, 103-92

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Concordia Clippers men's basketball team participated in Bentley University's Tip-Off Classic on Saturday evening. Concordia faced Saint Anselm College as the Clippers topped the Hawks, 103-92, to earn the program's first-ever victory against Saint Anselm according to historical records.

Concordia began the game with an 8-0 lead as the Clippers increased their lead to double digits at the 15:50 mark of the first half, 14-4. Concordia would hold a 25-12 advantage with 12:34 to go as the Hawks called a timeout to regroup. From here Saint Anselm slowly cut into the deficit and would tie the game a 29-29 with 7:40 remaining on the clock. Moments later the Hawks took their first lead of the game as the Clippers trailed 46-36 at the 3:57 mark. Concordia ended the half on an 11-6 run as Saint Anselm went into the locker room with a 52-47 advantage.

In the second half the Hawks would increase their lead to 61-52 with 17:29 remaining on the clock as the Clippers battled their way back to knot the score at 80-80 a the 7:27 mark. The advantage on the scoreboard would change hands on multiple occasions until a dunk by junior Jayson Cethoute (Queens, N.Y.) sparked a 16-0 run to put Concordia ahead for good en route to their 103-92 win over Saint Anselm.

Redshirt-Junior Cedrick McFadden (Washington, D.C.) led Concordia with 25 points, tying his career-high, and seven assists as junior Stephen Milhaven (Port Washington, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Cethoute scored a career-best 18 points while Elijah Brown (Maplewood, N.J.) added 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists and sophomore Brandon Fields (Washington, D.C.) chipped in with 11 points.

The Clippers (1-0) will next battle Bentley tomorrow evening in their final game at the host's Tip-Off Classic.
