Men's Basketball Earns Second Straight Victory After an 89-85 Win at Nyack

NYACK, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers men's basketball team secured an 89-85 win at Nyack College on Wednesday evening in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division game. Concordia swept the season series between the two teams as the Clippers have now won their last two games in a row.

The Warriors came out with the early advantage in the first half, 5-1, as Nyack extended their lead to 14-7 at the 15:32 mark. Concordia would cut their deficit to five points until a 7-2 run for the Warriors gave the home team a double digit advantage, 26-16, with just under 10 minutes to go in the half. The Clippers responded with five unanswered points as Concordia was only able to get within five points for the remainder of the period as Nyack went into the locker room with a 42-37 lead.

In the second half the Clippers would cut into their deficit and at the 16:35 mark held a one point lead, 48-47. Concordia managed to open up a six point advantage, but a 10-0 run later on would give the Warriors a 60-56 lead with 13:14 to go.

A 10-4 for the Clippers midway through the half would allow Concordia to regain the lead on the scoreboard as the Clippers held a one point lead at the 8:15 mark, 70-69. The Clippers would open up a six point advantage with just under five minutes remaining in the period, but Nyack would get within a basket at 79-77 with 3:16 to go in regulation.

Concordia would increase their lead to five points at the 1:31 mark, but the Warriors would score back-to-back field goals to trail by a point, 84-83, with 39 seconds remaining. Junior Elijah Brown (Springfield, N.J.) knocked down a three-point basket for the Clippers in their next possession as Concordia led 87-83 with eight seconds to go. Nyack was unable to complete the comeback as the Clippers held on for the 89-85 victory.

Brown led Concordia with a career-high 29 points to go along with seven rebounds while senior Jalen Heath (Joliet, Ill.) added 24 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Sophomore Stephen Milhaven (Port Washington, N.Y.) recorded his 11th double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds while redshirt-sophomore Cedrick McFadden (Washington, D.C.) chipped in with 10 points and six assists.

The Clippers (6-16, 5-8 CACC) will next host Philadelphia University on Saturday afternoon in the Meyer Athletic Center.
