Concordia Men's Basketball Edges Nyack, 74-72, in CACC North Division Showdown

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Concordia College men's basketball team edged Nyack College on Wednesday evening, 74-72, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division game in the Meyer Athletic Center.

Early in the first half the Warriors would take a 4-1 lead as the Clippers would keep the score close with their strong three-point shooting. Neither side was able to gain more than a three-point lead on the scoreboard until Concordia used a 10-4 run to hold a 24-16 advantage at the 8:06 mark. The Clippers would continue to increase their lead to end the first half as Concordia ended the period on a 6-2 run to take a 44-31 advantage into the locker room.

In the second half Nyack would come out with a 17-5 run as the Clippers' lead was down to a point, 49-48, with 13:47 remaining. Concordia would not let the Warriors grab the advantage as the Clippers regained a six point lead, but Nyack used seven unanswered points to hold the 62-61 lead with 6:18 to go.

The Warriors would extend their lead to as much as four points by the 4:50 mark, but Concordia used a 7-0 run of their own to regain the advantage with 2:31 remaining on the clock, 70-67. The Clippers would use their free throw shooting to hold a 74-70 lead with 10 seconds to go, but a layup and a drawn foul for Nyack with four seconds to play gave the visitors one last shot. The Warriors were unable to send the game into overtime as Concordia held on to edge Nyack, 74-72.

Sophomore Cedrick McFadden (Washington, D.C.) led the Clippers with a career-high 25 points as he connected on three three-point baskets and shot 8-of-11 from the foul line. Senior Jalen Heath (Joliet, Ill.) finished with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for his third-straight double-double as well as five assists. Junior Justyn Gardner (Queens, N.Y.) would add 10 points and seven rebounds as Concordia held a 21-10 advantage in second chance points.

The Clippers (2-6, 1-1 CACC) will be on the road this Saturday afternoon to visit Dominican (N.Y.) in a CACC North Division matchup.
