Concordia Wins Eighth Conference Game, 82-69, Over Holy Family

Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers men's basketball team took on Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division opponent Holy Family University this afternoon. After leading by 21 at the half, the Clippers cruised to an 82-69 victory in the Meyer Athletic Center.

Concordia began the game scoring seven straight points as the crowed got behind the team from the opening basket. The Tigers responded with a couple baskets of their own but the Clippers opened up a 19-6 lead following a three-point basket by Dominique Spann (West Babylon, NY).

The three-point shooting for Concordia began to heat up as the Clippers converted on more opportunities from behind the arc. The shooting for Concordia allowed them to open up a 22 point lead with 6:28 remaining in the half. A three-pointer by Spann with 34 seconds remaining gave the Clippers the momentum going into the locker room as they held a 51-30 lead at the break.

In the second half, Holy Family was determined to make it a game and get back to within striking distance. Through much of the half, Concordia kept their 20 point lead on the scoreboard but an 8-0 run by the Tigers would change the momentum as Holy Family only trailed by 15 with seven minutes left in the game.

The Tigers continued to battle hard and after a three-point basket with 1:27 remaining, their deficit was only nine points. Holy Family had to resort to fouling the Clippers in hopes to tie the game. Concordia made five-of-six free throws down the stretch to secure their eighth conference victory of the season.

Brandon Whitaker (Harlem, NY) led the Clippers with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Whitaker knocked down four three-point baskets and also added seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in 34 minutes of action. The Clippers (11-13, 8-8 CACC) next will be on the road to take on Goldey-Beacom College. Concordia will visit the Joseph West Jones Center on Saturday, Feb. 18th for a 3pm game following the women's game.
