Lowell, MA – The Concordia College Clippers men's basketball team concluded their non-conference schedule this afternoon as they faced Northeast-10 (NE-10) Conference opponent Mass.-Lowell. After allowing 67 first half points, the Clippers were unable to catch up to the River Hawks falling 109-81.
Mass.-Lowell began the game scoring on their first three shot attempts to take a 7-0 lead causing Concordia to take a timeout in the early moments. The Clippers previously played the night before as the team did not begin the game on the right foot. Concordia settled down and countered with a 7-0 run of their own to tie the game. The River Hawks looked to their three-point shooting in the first half to take an early edge as the team shot 10-of-15 (66.7%) from behind the three-point line in the first half alone.
Midway through the half, Mass.-Lowell held a 10 point lead following a three-point basket. The Clippers would cut the lead to single digits but foul trouble in the final five minutes of the period allowed the River Hawks to score 10 extra points from the foul line. Concordia went into the locker room down 67-41.
In the second half, Mass.-Lowell worked hard to draw fouls against the Clippers as the River Hawks got to the foul line numerous times. Overall, Mass.-Lowell shot 30-of-42 (71.4%) from the free-throw line while Concordia only attempted 22 foul shots and made 15 of them (68.2%).
The River Hawks held a 30 point lead after a free-throw at the 15:39 mark. By the end of the game the Clippers cut their deficit to only 28 as Mass.-Lowell continued to keep a substantial lead. The River Hawks captured their seventh victory of the season in their final non-conference game of the year.
Junior Argelix Gil (Brooklyn, NY) led Concordia with 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field while adding eight rebounds, two steals, and a block and an assist. Jason Alleyne (Bronx, NY) added a career-high 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field as he chipped in with two rebounds and a steal. As a team, Concordia shot 48.4% (31-of-64) from the field while the River Hawks' bench outscored the Clippers' bench 48-20.
Concordia (5-7, 2-2 CACC) will have a few days off to prepare for their next game which will take place on Thursday, January 5th.
