Gil’s 31 Points Leads Concordia to a 101-85 win over Nyack

Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers men's basketball team won their second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game this evening as they hosted Nyack College. Behind a career-high 31 point performance by junior Argelix Gil (Brooklyn, NY), the Clippers won 101-85.

Nyack began the first half in control on the scoreboard as they went on a 7-0 run to open the game. Concordia soon tied the score at 9-9 with 15:11 remaining in the half and never trailed following freshman Jason Alleyne's (New Rochelle, NY) layup.

After a three-point basket by junior Brandon Whitaker (Harlem, NY) the Clippers held a nine point lead with 12:47 remaining in the period. The Warriors attempted to get back into the game as they went on an 8-2 run to cut their deficit to three points. The three-point shooting for Concordia extended their lead as they went into the locker room with a 46-35 lead.

In the second half, Nyack managed to cut their deficit to seven points after a layup with 13:57 remaining in the game. The Clippers then looked to their three-point shooting to extend their lead and put the game away.

Concordia took advantage of the Warriors' mistakes as the Clippers scored 33 of their points off Nyack's turnovers. Concordia also had a large presence on the offensive glass which helped them to score 21 of their points on second chance opportunities.

Gil's 31 points came on 11-of-14 shooting from the field while adding six rebounds, four steals, two assists and a block. Alleyne added a career high 15 points while chipping in with four rebounds and a steal for the Clippers. As a team, Concordia shot 50.0% (34-of-68) from the field and shot 11-of-20 (55.0%) from behind the three-point line.

The Clippers (5-3, 2-1 CACC) will look for another win on Thursday as they will host Caldwell College. The game will take place in the Meyer Athletic Center on the campus of Concordia College at 7pm.
