Clippers Fall 75-66 to Dominican in CACC Match

Orangeburg, NY – The Concordia College Clippers men's basketball team looked for their second straight conference victory as they traveled to Dominican College this afternoon. After trailing at the half, the Clippers were unable to make a comeback late in the second half as the Chargers won for the fifth time this season, 75-66.

Concordia began the afternoon missing on their first eight shots but managed to keep within striking distance of Dominican. After two free throws by freshman Mohamed Abass (Brooklyn, NY), the Clippers held a 10-7 lead. The Chargers then went on a 7-2 run to have an edge on the scoreboard.

Concordia worked hard to gain a 28-27 lead after a three-point basket by Kyle Kube (West Babylon, NY) with just under two minutes to play in the first half. Dominican finished the half on a 7-0 run as they went into the locker room with a 34-28 lead.

In the second half, the Clippers battled back once again to tie the score at 47-47 after a layup by junior Jared Smith (Wyandanch, NY) with 12:11 remaining. The Chargers would go on a 23-10 run in the next 10 minutes to give themselves enough of a cushion to hold off Concordia from attempting another run of their own.

Norman Pope (Washington, D.C.) led the Clippers with 16 points and added four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Freshman Jason Alleyne (New Rochelle, NY) added a career high 13 points while chipping in with five rebounds, three assists and two steals for Concordia. As a team, the Clippers shot 30.7% (23-of-75) from the field and shot 8-of-27 (29.6%) from behind the three-point line.

Concordia (4-3, 1-1 CACC) will play their first conference home game on Tuesday, December 6th. The Clippers will host Nyack for a 7pm game which will take place in the Meyer Athletic Center on the campus of Concordia College.
