Baseball Upended By Stonehill, 16-2

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Sophomore third baseman AJ Gonzalez (Carmel, N.Y.) recorded his first multi-hit outing as a member of the Concordia College New York baseball team on Saturday afternoon, tallying two hits in the Clippers 16-2 setback against Stonehill College.

NOTES
• Concordia falls to 1-2.

• Stonehill improves to 2-1.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Gonzalez went 2-3 at the plate.

• Senior first baseman Joseph Impeduglia (Staten Island, N.Y.) drew a pair of walks with one run.

• Freshman second baseman Austin Vlahakis (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored one run.

• Freshman right fielder Leo Alvarez (Oceanside, N.Y.) went 1-4 with a RBI.

• Senior right-handed pitcher Michael Romano (Yonkers, N.Y.) was credited with the loss after tossing 4.0 innings with six runs, three earned, off five hits with five walks and two strikeouts.

• For Stonehill, Joh Orzechowski went 3-5 with three RBI, one run and one walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Loading the bases off three walks in the bottom of the fourth, Stonehill used a pair of singles sandwiching a Clippers' error to take a 4-0 lead.

• Leading off the bottom of the fifth with an error, Stonehill scored a pair of runs off a single before another unearned run crossed home plate to make it 7-0.

• Reaching base off a one-out walk, Impeduglia touched home plate off an Alvarez double to make it 7-1.

• The Skyhawks capitalized on back-to-back Clippers' errors in the bottom of the seventh to score eight runs and boast a 15-1 advantage.

• Leading off the top of the eighth with a walk, Vlahakis scored his first collegiate run off a bases-loaded walk for freshman third baseman Deven Silva (Yonkers, N.Y.) to make it 15-2.

• A one-out single for Stonehill sent a Skyhawk home to create the final score.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
• Concordia recorded five hits while Stonehill tallied 12.

• The Clippers left seven runners on base while Stonehill stranded 11.

• Concordia committed five errors, allowing 12 runs to score. Molloy had two errors.
